Not long ago I finished work on a sample knife design for a narrow range of consumers. Process of work on the knife took quite a long time, so sit down comfortable so let's start :)

 🔹 Introduction 

The main problem for the creator of the tool is to please everyone. It is under this idea that we should consider this practical work, namely, the creation of a device (knife) and mastering the skills of creating from scratch the concept of a knife.

In this work is to develop the design of the knife, for a specific person or group of people. The knife that will be developed must match the parameters of the chosen person, his work and personal interests. To develop a design, you need to create sketches of knives, their pens, from which you need to choose one that is best suited for convenience and functions for performing tasks that the chosen person will set for himself.

 🔹 Investigation

Among the many professions, people and their hobbies, the choice was stopped by the profession - a diver. Since this is a very interesting and dangerous profession, information has been searched about the job of these people, about how they do their work, and what protection is available from marine hunters. 

Since it is very important to remain calm and confidently do their work - it was decided to make a knife for divers as a secondary weapon against marine predators. This knife is conceived as a means of protection, and not a means for causing time to others. When a man was found, for whom it was decided to make a knife, we proceed to work.

  What is known about this diver? "His name is Kerry Daniel." 35 y.o. Australian. He has been diving for 10 years.  Why this particular diver?   - The first information about him was found on the news from one site, in which it was reported that "Diver shot the first person video of a bloody battle with a blunt-haired shark".

After understanding that it is important to have a good remedy in your hands at the moment when the threat may be in a few seconds from you, I were decided to stop on this person, in order to make that knife that will be useful to him in the work.

 🔹 Conceptual definition

  Since it is very difficult to buy a good diving knife, since it is very expensive, the knife was taken as the basis of the knife. In the analysis of the knife, it was taken into account the work of the diver, and it was decided to create a knife that combines several functions that can be used to repel a large fish. The main ideas are outlined below: 

1. Sound signal
2. Glow for search
3. Jackhammer blade

 1️⃣  Beep. It is called to cause a shock in the fish with the help of ultrasound, which will be directed to the predator at the time of its attack.

 2️⃣   Backlight. Used as a sensor / signal for the diver to continue to find the knife in case of loss. 

 3️⃣   Used as a jackhammer on a knife. Its purpose is to close the attack on the predator, which is near. Used as a shocking and traumatic means. Inside the knife the microcontroller avr is used, it is programmed for the above properties. The energy source of this device is a finger battery, which is installed inside the knife through the cover in the form of a button at the back. 

 💡 For the LED signal, touch sensors are used, which reacts to the absence of pressing them. If the knife is opened in the hand, the LED lights up in a bright color, and begins to flicker until it is picked up and disconnected. The flicker off is programmed using the side keys. 

  🔹  Basic form

Since I didn't found a suitable knife in the store, I decided to focus on a simple kitchen knife.

When the decision on the functions of the knife was ready, the original table knife was  drawn, to further adjust its design and functional part.    

  When the basic data on the knife were collected, knife sketches were created.  

  When the sketches were ready, they began to create knife prototypes according to sketches.  

  🔹 Technical drawing of the object

After analyzing all the knives, a unique sketch of the knife has been created, taking into account all the wishes of our buyer.

Based on the sketch, a 3D model of the knife was started. For work, I used several applications. 

➡️3DsMax – A program for digital modeling, animation, and texturing. (Used for modeling).    

➡️3Dcoat – A program for modeling and texturing, and a sweep (used for unwraping).  

➡️Photoshop – A program for working with images, editing them, and creating. (Used to create textures).  

 

➡️Marmoset toolbug 2 – A program for creating final renderings, or previewing 3D models. (Used to create the final images).  

 

After creating the sketch, it was decided to use the foam, since it is ideal for this type of work. The following tools and materials that has been used:  

 

1. Spatula

3. Acrylic paint, machine paint.
4. Sandpaper
5. Putty
6. Glue
7. Polyfoam
8. Brushes
9. Pencils
10. Marker
11. Ruler

 🔹 Conclusion 

Working on this task, I got a lot of experience in making knives, starting with sketches, working with materials such as gypsum, clay, foam. There were problems in creating the main prototype of the knife, because it was difficult to identify with the material that would be best suited, because of what made the knives broke or cracked. But when I realized correctly, everything turned out.
