How to make a pair of baby gladiator sandals
Hello steemites, so about today ...I ventured out to produce a pair of baby gladiator sandals...cute rite....and i ll be taking you through the process...that should be fun right??.....
my clients name is Ayomide...(Ayo) and she's a size 17...she's a pure melanin....and supercute....so I selected a bright colour...GOLD....Its her birthday this weekend her mom wanted something customised....her name AYO will be on the sandals... Just because she's a baby..the materials used for the sandals will be soft and relaxing...
We ll be using Marco material...and little of Nora...for the out sole....
For the first step,I have my sole pattern its soo small and cute...Lol...I draw it out...on a piece of paper...but I use a size 20...because as u kno it...kids grow into their sandals....and of cos...the size will reduce a bit after a little trimming....
I get my footrest...a gold material and my Marco material and apply gum on both sides....gum together firmly put the cut out pattern on the gold surfaced Marco...and draw same pattern ...and cut out....
Next is the base....and heel of shoe...the paper pattern is placed on the Nora material and pattern is cut out...same as heel........
The Nora material is filed on the bench grinder....to get rid of the smooth part...to avoid slipping and falling on tiles...
Apply gum to heel and place on sole....
Use a hammer to hit properly to ensure perfect bond... Now you have your sole and footrest....
Now to the top....landing material is gummed on same gold material.... And straps slim enough to fit into the buckle are cut out with the aid of a sharp cutter ,glass base and a steel ruler.... And two squares large enough for the front is cut....
Next you sew it all conners including the straps...with similar thread....and the customizing apart....the name Ayo was drawn on a red leather and cut out...carefully...to proportion... And sewed on the gold square leather.......the full pattern drawn afterward and equally sewn round....
Using the pattern, the footrest is marked with a needle and punched with a puncher...and torn with a cutter blade....
The top is fixed inside.... And gum is applied and left to dry...den pressed down.....
Afterwards.... The gladiator strap is fixed with buckles....and fixed in...gum is applied to both surfaces....the footrest and Nora sole....and left to dry....before compiling...
A hammer is used to hit it down to ensure firm holding....
Note...gum cannot be applied on a smooth surface...the surface has to be filed with a machine or sandpaper....secondly... Wen gum s applied it must be left to dry before compiling it...thirdly....you cannot apply gum to just one part it won't hold....gum must be applied on both surfaces.....
And voila...we have a cute size 19/20 baby gladiator... Hope you can try it out...and repost pictures of your work.....upvote and follow......DEE N ELL FOOTWEAR....!
