A LEAFED - MOTIF WALL HANGING

Third post in three days... Yeeaayy.... This is my third post in three days.. As such, this is my third entry in the @merej99 competition....

This post is essentially going to give a detailed description on how to make a leafed motif wall hanging . First of all, this kind of art falls under ceranmics; though kinda of like sculpture, it has to be lighter and smoother...

The wall hanging could be hung on the wall with flowers placed in it... It could also be used a s a sort of holder of sorts..

The following are the steps in creating a leafed motif wall hanging .

STEP 1
The first step in creating any design is to have a sketch. The sketch could GB e drawn out or be in your head.

STEP 2
This is the beginning of the actual creation of the work. You create a very big slab that is adequate for the size of the artwork. The wall hanging is being done in 6 *8 inches. One must try to make the slabs as light as possible as this is the actual beauty of ceranmics work.

STEP 3
After creating the slab, the next step is to create a template for the small and big leaf in the design. The templates are then placed on the slab and the shapes are cut out. In creating this artwork, three small leaves and a bigger leaf are cut out.

STEP 4
In this step, we treat each leaves individually into right pattern... Instead of lines, contours are brought out.

STEP 5
After each leaves have been patterned and identical, the next step is to couple all the leaves into the sketch done. With the bigger leaf as base, the three other smaller are arranged as done in the sketch. In coupling, you would make use of a dissolved clay solution known as slip.

STEP 6
This step should basically be to smoothen all part of the work...
