RE: From ship to ball
From the novel in verses “Eugene Onegin” (1823–1831) by A. S. Pushkin (1799-1837)):
And traveling to him,
How everything in the world, tired,
He came back and hit
Like Chatsky, from ship to ball.
The expression of this characterizes an unexpected, abrupt change of positions, circumstances.
Thank you. Now I understand.
