El es el señor Olegario Rivas, vive en una zona rural de Timotes, Mérida, Venezuela, en una casa que podría considerarse en ruinas, cuando lo conocí hace poco mas de 1 mes el ni siquiera recordaba su edad, varias veces a la semana iba a visitarlo junto a algunos amigos, y entre mas conversábamos con el, mas cosas recordaba, parece que el mundo se había olvidado de el, pero el no se había olvidado del mundo, recordó la fecha de su cumpleaños, el día 6 de Marzo de este año cumplía ya 78 años, recordaba ya el nombre de sus padres y de sus abuelos, cada vez se le veía mas alegre, cada vez que nos veía llegar a lo lejos se ponía de pie y nos saludaba a lo lejos, parece que la soledad y los años habían pasado factura, tal vez las ruinas de su casa eran parte ya de su propia mente, sin embargo en estas semanas se ha notado bastante la diferencia, ahora sonríe cada vez que habla de su vida, nos cuenta historias de antaño, de viejos tiempos que parecían ser mejores, ahora Olegario es uno mas de nuestra numerosa familia, la familia del Frente Juvenil Manos por Venezuela.

He is Mr. Olegario Rivas, he lives in a rural area of ​​Timotes, Mérida, Venezuela, in a house that could be considered in ruins, when I met him a little over a month ago he did not even remember his age, several times a week to visit him with some friends, and the more we talked to him, the more he remembered, the world seemed to have forgotten him, but he had not forgotten the world, he remembered the date of his birthday, On March 6 of this year he was already 78 years old, he remembered the name of his parents and his grandparents, every time he looked more cheerful, every time he saw us arrive in the distance he would stand up and greet us far away, it seems that the loneliness and the years had taken their toll, perhaps the ruins of his house were already part of his own mind, however in these weeks the difference has been noticed, now he smiles every time he talks about his life, he tells us stories of yesteryear, of old times that seemed to be better, now Olegario is one of our numerous family, the Front's family Youthful Hands for Venezuela.

El proyecto los rostros de mi Pueblo fue una idea que se me ocurrió hace un par de años sin embargo no contaba con la trayectoria ni el apoyo suficiente para llevarlo a cabo, consiste en retratar los rostros mas característicos de la ciudad de Timotes usando el estilo del Hiperrealismo, para proceder luego a subastar las obras en un evento que se llevará a cabo a mediados del mes de Mayo, en el cual todo el dinero recaudado será usado para comprar comida, ropa y medicinas para las personas mas necesitadas de Timotes, si bien no vamos a cambiar la terrible situación que atraviesa nuestro País de esa manera, pretendemos cambiarle el mundo a muchas personas necesitadas, ¿Qué mejor ejemplo que Olegario Rivas? el cual por momentos no recordaba ni su nombre el día que lo conocimos, y ahora no para de contarnos historias de sus días de juventud.

The project the faces of my people was an idea that occurred to me a couple of years ago, however I did not have the trajectory nor enough support to carry it out, it consists in portraying the most characteristic faces of the city of Timotes using the style of Hyperrealism, to proceed then to auction the works in an event that will take place in the middle of May, in which all the money collected will be used to buy food, clothes and medicines for the people most in need of Timotes, if well we are not going to change the terrible situation that our country is going through in that way, we intend to change the world to many people in need, what better example than Olegario Rivas? which at times did not remember his name the day we met him, and now he does not stop telling us stories of his youthful days.

El Proceso

The Process

Esta obra ha sido la mas complicada que he hecho en toda mi vida, no solo por la cantidad de detalles de la fotografía original, sino por la presión que tenía, esta obra debía tener una calidad mas que aceptable para poder ser considerada en una subasta, en el boceto inicial estuve trabajando un día entero, con mucha paciencia procurando cuidar cada mínimo detalle, procedí al día siguiente a pintar el rostro, solo en esta área tardé 4 días, en este rostro podemos apreciar una gran cantidad de texturas las cuales si bien embellecían el trabajo, lo complicaban bastante, al punto donde incluso algunos poros de la piel llegan a apreciarse fuertemente.

This work has been the most complicated I have done in my life, not only because of the amount of details of the original photograph, but because of the pressure I had, this work should have a quality that is more than acceptable to be considered in an auction , in the initial sketch I was working a whole day, with a lot of patience trying to take care of every little detail, I proceeded the next day to paint the face, only in this area I took 4 days, in this face we can appreciate a lot of textures which if they embellished the work, they complicated it enough, to the point where even some pores of the skin come to be appreciated strongly.

Un pequeño descanso imprevisto

A small unexpected break

Desde el día 7 de marzo hasta el día 12 de marzo del año 2019 , en Venezuela ocurrió un evento desafortunado que fue predicho en el año 2012 por ingenieros eléctricos reputados, un apagón a gran escala que afecto casi la totalidad de los rincones del País, afectando gravemente a Hospitales, Clínicas, Fábricas, Transporte, la industria de Agua Potable, Comercios, las Telecomunicaciones y agravando aún mas la crisis que se atraviesa actualmente en el País, los días previos al apagón estuve trabajando en el retrato en cuestión, sin embargo cuando la luz eléctrica se fue, no fue posible continuar, la imagen original estaba en mi computadora y no había forma de poder trabajar sin observar esta fotografía, además, en Timotes fueron días bastante tensos, se reportaron saqueos y vandalismo, seguido de una fuerte represión a quienes somos lideres e integrantes de movimientos de Oposición quienes no teníamos nada que ver con los actos de vandalismo.

From March 7 to March 12, 2019, an unfortunate event occurred in Venezuela that was predicted in 2012 by reputable electrical engineers, a large-scale blackout that affected almost all corners of the country. seriously affecting Hospitals, Clinics, Factories, Transportation, the Potable Water industry, Commerce, Telecommunications and further aggravating the crisis that is currently going through the country, the days before the blackout I was working on the portrait in question, however when the electric light went out, it was not possible to continue, the original image was in my computer and there was no way to work without observing this picture, besides, in Timotes were quite tense days, looting and vandalism followed by severe repression who are leaders and members of opposition movements who had nothing to do with the acts of vandalism were reported.

The Clothes

Esta definitivamente fue la parte mas complicada de toda la obra, sin embargo no me tomó mas de 2 días completarla, los detalles de la tela al principio me resultaron casi imposibles, fue bastante tedioso, incluso llegué a pensar que no lograría terminar el trabajo, pero conforme pasaban las horas las texturas se volvían mas sencillas, me resultaba mas fácil por el hecho de llevar horas repitiendo el mismo proceso, y luego de 2 largos días el área de la ropa estuvo lista.

This was definitely the most complicated part of the whole work, however, it did not take me more than 2 days to complete it, the details of the cloth at the beginning were almost impossible, it was quite tedious, I even have a thought that I could not finish the job, but according to the hours, the textures became simpler, it was easier for me to carry out the hours repeating the same process, and then of 2 days.

Las Manos

The Hands

Es la zona de color piel mas sencilla en este dibujo, si bien las texturas son bastante marcadas no fue tan complicado de trabajar, las texturas iban todas en una sola dirección, y las zonas de iluminación que dejaban ver las venas de las manos estaban bien definidas, dando como resultado final unas manos que se notan bastante dañadas por el trabajo y el paso del tiempo.

It is the easiest skin color area in this drawing, although the textures are quite marked it was not that complicated to work, the textures were all in one direction, and the lighting areas that let see the veins of the hands were fine defined, giving as a final result some hands that feel quite damaged by work and the passage of time.
