Original Artwork
CASTLEBERRY CRUNCH TREE

I will be posting more of my original artwork here on Steemit! I have here for you a work that I now call The Castleberry Crunch Tree! The process started with a pencil drawing. Once I got the lines in pencil... I inked the pencil lines... and erased the graphite pencil. After the rendering was inked... I colored selectively with Sharpie markers.

Once I finished spot coloring with Sharpies (which soak all the way into the paper) I layered wax based PrismaColor pencils on bare paper and the pre-colored areas. This adds depth and dimension to the drawing. After some colored pencil work... I then came back in with some Gel Pens. I did some of the drawing in layer upon layer of gel ink of different colors. The effects were pretty cool!

The tree... (which many see as a mushroom) has some texturing with a black gel pen atop just a bare layer of Teal Sharpie. This gives the effect of miniature foliage. I left the "fruit" just bare Red Sharpie. If you stare at just the red dots long enough and then look at the other stuff it will mess with your eyes. I have seen it with the old school 3-D glasses and it turns out to be pretty 3-D unintentionally!

I finished up with a final touch up with some more colored pencils and used some highlighters to move the waxes around... almost like watercoloring. Then I cleaned the the lines up with some more traditional ink outlining and detailing and then a last layer of Gel Pen outlining and highlighting. This has been one of my favorite pieces of art because it was when I was first experimenting with color and different mediums. I usually was a pencil only or pencil and ink... or ink only kind of guy back at that stage and for quite some time in my artistic development. The response to this image motivated me to continue on in color! Thanks for stopping by to check out my art and I hope you enjoyed this The Castleberry Crunch Tree!

Yes it looks quite abstract.
It's incredible how much work you did on this painting thanks to your detailed explanation wich I personally appreciate a lot.
I'm also see it as a global description of duality expressed as the contrast between day and night, soil and water and living beings that exist or are able to live on both sides ...
I love your painting, thanks so much for sharing ;)

Thanks! You saw the duality in contrasts and that is awesome. Sometimes people tell me more about the art than I designed. It always amazes me when an artwork comes together and the different perceptions almost give more value than what was originally being expressed! I am glad you liked the explanation too! Using highlighters to move wax around on top of a layer of color that is already soaked or stained in gives you some crazy effects. Just don't use too much highlighter or it will tear the paper. You kind of have to work quick and light... but the end results are quite cool! =)

This is very cool... otherworldly!

Thanks! That's exactly what I was going for! I appreciate your time. =)
