How to draw Heads & Faces - Let's Get Better -
Hello Steemians,
Today's 'Let's Get Better' lesson is about Heads & Faces.. It has already been a week since we tackled taking a greyscale image into color. Today we talk a little more about drawing the face.
How do you start?! How do you construct a face, what are the rules and guidelines etc etc!

Drawing heads is very difficult but there are some methods that make it easier and a few simple rules and guidelines that you can apply to almost every face!
You can break down every head and face to simple shapes.. When you do so, it is way less intimidating.
In the simplified version it is also easier to check if the proportions are in line so you don't make mistakes down the line.
You might start rendering and applying shadows and details straight away, only to find that the distance between the nose and lips is off or the chin is to small etc.. It ruins the face and if you try to get likeness into a portrait.. it can make or break a drawing.
So here are a few quick and easy things to remember!
Simplify the face and stick to a few basic rules.. Which will allow you to easily draw correctly proportioned generic faces. ( we all got to start somewhere right?!!? :D )
The top of the ears aligns with the top of the eyebrows.
The bottom of the ears align with the bottom of the nose.
The distance between the bottom of the nose and the bottom of the chin is the same distance as the bottom of the nose
to the middle of the eyebrows.The same sizing applies to the forehead/hairline.
The inner corner of the eyes are in line with the nostrils.
The pupil is in line with the corner of the mouth.
The distance between the nose and mouth line is 1/3 of the total distance.
Another important part in learning how to draw faces is to learn the actual anatomy of the face.
What muscles are underneath the skin, where does the bones/skull reach the skin and what is the shape.
If you understand more of what i going on underneath the skin it will help you get that freedom to create and imagine every type of face you want and still make it believable.
And just like everything else.. It is a skill.. Skills need to be trained in order to develop. It takes time, effort and some determination!
But practice makes perfect so don't get discouraged when you can't seem to get it down right away.
Just stick with it and practice!

This is such a great series. I really like the way you've broken down the proportions of the face here. Very technical, for those who think in those terms, and a great reminder for those of us who draw "by feel". haha

Yeah your 'feeling' can be quite accurate, but when you actually learn about the theory/rules behind all of it you come to know so much more and it all become easier ;)
