NEW YEAR

On the brink of another New Year,
2019, all’s good with nothing to fear?
Well, that may, or may not, be so.
We don’t know anything, we just don’t know!
Expectations may be high, and that’s good.
But it should be known, yes understood,
That so many things can go most awry,
Again, we don’t know, not knowing what and why!
Harbingers of doom can be everywhere,
Optimists espouse fine things, yes, they dare.

Somethings inherently take on a rosy hue,
Others seem coloured to make one blue!
Speaking on a Global basis,
Certain things seem to provide a security oasis.
Whilst others may cause sure jitters,
Especially for financial hard-hitters!
Observe the Stock Exchanges of the globe,
A roller coaster performance, a fast moving strobe.
What’s up is down, what’s down is up,
No stability, and certainly no comfort cup.
Why such irregular movement, why so many jitters?
Because the said comfort cup is full of bitters.
So much uncertainty as to what will impact
On investments and dividends, that’s just a fact.
It’s common knowledge that so many countries today,
Have gigantically huge debt and deficient to pay.
Debt levels well over what they should be in relation to G.D.P
A most precarious position, as you can see.
Europe contains many of these,
Whilst the U.S.A of debt is obese,
Double digits of trillions of dollars,
Confuse every school of economy scholars.
Outward signs include some that appear good.
But outward appearances can be deceptive, its understood
At the very least, there could be a recession,
Globalization means that all will join the procession.

As far as World Peace, prospects look dim
All the traditional hot spots full to the brim.
Not full of peace, no nothing like that,
The cup’s full of hate; war at the drop of a hat!

Mass immigration, one place after another,
People unable to stay in the country of their mother,
Famine, corruption, terrorism and other causes of fright
Driving people to perilous journeys for little respite.
In fact, if one was asked to guess,
They would have to agree, the world’s in a mess!

Of course, there’s not space here to go on and on.
Any rationalization would be a huge con.
What’s happening, is happening, can’t alter that.
One can not alter each difference, squabble and spat,
The world’s just like that, and that is that!
We’ll put all this behind us, never you fear.
For here we are, on the brink of a happy new year!
