From my sketchbook: black and white India #2steemCreated with Sketch.

Ancient cities, women wearing colorful saris, like flowers, absolutely incredible atmosphere, smells of incense and spicy food — all of this is India. And I continue to draw her. I already showed some pictures of India in one of the previous posts:

Today I want to share with you, my dear Steemeters, a new batch of drawings from this series. (Pier in Kolkata)

Drawing India in black and white might seem a weird idea, because she is so bright and colorful indeed. And I really want to make colored paintings as well. But perhaps there is special time for everything, so now instead of big canvases I dedicate to her my small sketchbook.

I have an idee fixe: I want to fill all pages in my notebook with sketches of India. That is about 50 more pages. I like the fact that in this way the sketchbook becomes theme-based. It is now like an artifact for me and I love to go through the pages myself revisiting already drawn parts of my Indian trip.

(Jain ghat in Varanasi)

(Near Bodhi-tree)

Just a words about materials which I use. When I did first sketches in my notebook I used ink, brush, and liner ink-pens from Japanese brand Uchida (white ones on my photos). Later I switched ink and brush for Faber-Castell brush-pen (the black one in the photo). I bought it once to try and practically fell in love. Of course, modern ink-pens and brush-pens can't fully replace traditional ink, but they are getting quite close to it. And the comfort they offer (no need to deal with flasks, washing instruments etc) makes quick sketching possible under absolutely any conditions. So, my sincere gratitude goes to manufacturers of modern materials for artists for doing what they do :)

(Boats on the Ganga)

I guess it would be more interesting if besides pictures I could tell you about the places drawn in this sketchbook. In fact, I have written semi-fictional stories, dedicated to each of the portrayed cities. But so far my English is not good enough to translate it. So only pictures for now ))

 Enjoy! :)

I never visited India, but it seems to me that this is the Jain Ghat in Varanasi.
