Digital art tutorial - How to paint candy step by step

Candy is sweet, candy is colorful, candy is perfect to make a drawing of! In this digital art tutorial I'll be showing you how to paint candy using digital painting software and (preferably) a drawing tablet. I made this painting using an iPad Pro and the app Procreate

STEP 1 - Make a loose sketch

Start out by making a loose sketch. All you need to do is get the basic shape down as a guide for your painting. I used a photo as reference. I used a standard pencil brush in Procreate.

STEP 2 – Paint the basic colors

Start painting the basic colors of the candy in a layer beneath the sketch layer.

STEP 3 – Adding more color variation, lights and darks

I used an Overlay layer to add more color variation and started adding more darks and lights, slowly adding detail.

STEP 4 – Drop shadow and details

Add a drop shadow below the other layers. I used a Procreate standard airbrush to make the shadow. Keep adding details to the candy until you are satisfied. Work from big to small (details) and from low to high contrast.
