Around 1514 he wandered from the parts of Terracina my city, , called by Pope Leo X a gentleman with a long beard, elegantly dressed, with long gray hair and deep eyes.
At that time, he was staying in Rome at the Belvedere of the Vatican, host of Leo X.
Certain registration documents attest to his arrival in Rome in November 1513.

This man, with an austere bearing, with a curious and inquiring gaze, carried with him a notebook and seemed to be writing down anything that caught his attention.
Who was he?
Simply messer Leonardo Da Vinci, the greatest genius of art history.
Pope Leo X wanted to solve the serious problem of the marshy area south of Rome, namely the area of ​​the plain between Cisterna and Terracina, in the duchies Sermoneta, Maenza and Cori.
He entrusted the task of studying the marshy area and finding a solution to reclaim it, right to Leonardo.

On horseback or on the back of a mule, Messer Leonardo turned the area of ​​Terracina and the mountains, far and wide, going up over the mountains to 2000 meters of height, to better observe the hydrogeographic situation.
The supreme genius with pen, ink and watercolor, gave birth to this cartographic map, the first and the most famous map of history.

It looks like a piece of Google Map, and you can already see the effect of the three-dimensionality of the hills obtained with chiaroscuro.
A bird's-eye map, the first in history, resulting in more than a year of Leonardo's stay in Terracina, with many horseback excursions in the neighboring mountains, to better observe the reliefs and coastline of the Tyrrhenian Sea.

I stop, because we at the Cultural Association "the colors of life" have organized a conference on this theme, as this year marks the 500th anniversary of Leonardo's death.

Il Genio in casa.

Intorno al 1514 si aggirava dalle parti di Terracina, chiamato dal papa Leone X un signore dalla lunga barba, vestito elegantemente, con lunghi capelli grigi ed occhi profondi.
Egli in quel periodo, alloggiava a Roma nel Belvedere del Vaticano, ospite di Leone X.
Documenti certi di registrazione, attestano il suo arrivo a Roma nel novembre del 1513.

Quest'uomo, dal portamento austero, con uno sguardo curioso e indagatore, portava con se un taccuino e sembrava annotasse qualsiasi cosa destasse la sua attenzione.
Chi era costui?
Semplicemente messer Leonardo Da Vinci, il più grande genio della storia dell'arte.
Il papa Leone X voleva risolvere il grave problema del territorio paludoso a sud di Roma, precisamente la zona della pianura tra Cisterna e Terracina, nei ducati Sermoneta, Maenza e Cori.
Affidò l'incarico di studiare la zona paludosa e trovare una soluzione per bonificarla, proprio a Leonardo.

A cavallo, o a dorso di mulo messer Leonardo girò la zona di Terracina e i monti, in lungo e in largo, salendo fin sopra le montagne a 2000 metri di altezza, per poter meglio osservare la situazione idrogeografica.
Il sommo genio con penna, inchiostro e acquarello, partorì questa mappa cartografica, la prima e la più famosa mappa della storia.

Sembra un pezzo di Google Map, e potete osservare già l'effetto della tridiimensionalità delle colline ottenute con chiaroscuro.
Una mappa a volo d'uccello, la prima della storia, risultato di oltre un anno di permanenza di Leonardo a Terracina, con molte escursioni a cavallo sulle montagne limitrofe, per poter meglio osservare i rilievi e le linee di costa del mar Tirreno.

Mi fermo, perchè noi dell'Associazione Culturale "i colori della vita" abbiamo organizzato una conferenza su questo tema, visto che quest'anno ricorrono i 500 anni dalla morte di Leonardo.
Editeremo anche una pubblicazione inedita, curata dal rmio amico e relatore dott. Grossi Venceslao. presidente dell'Archeoclub di Terracina.
