Photoshop Background Removal Technique with Background with Hair
Transformation
Removing backgrounds on people can make them more malleable to place in different settings and adjust more deeply in images.
Step-by-Step
It never made it so easy to crop people with strands of hair as recent updates to Photoshop have.
Removing background and cropping by hand can be a chore and won't always produce the highest quality. Photoshop has included several tools to help make this easier.
Select the eraser tool called Background Eraser Tool. This will erase whatever color you sample (in the middle of your brush) that's within your brush area. It's usually best to use a 100% hard brush, and lower the tolerance to between 10-25%. Change the limits to Discontiguous.
You can see below how the hair doesn't get deleted, only the color around the hair. This works best when there's a solid contrast or color contrast.
Once I delete the parts around the hair, I will add a black or color background to help show parts that pop out. There I will take a feathered eraser brush and go around for smoothing.
I place a dark or color background behind the image.
I will delete the elements around the part the brush cropped out. This will make the rest of the image disappear as well.
Oh! There was such a useful way!
I didn't know about this. Wow! This makes my life easier! Thanks!
