Hong Kong Snapshot(118) A Secret Garden of Peng Chau 香港隨拍(118) 坪洲秘密花園

In the last Hong Kong Snapshot(117), I visited Peng Chau, a small island in Hong Kong, to feel the peace and relaxation of the island. Peng Chau is one of few place in Hong Kong not urbanised. Because of it, more and more artists are moving to Peng Chau, transform Peng Chau to an art town. If you are asking the representative of them, I would say “My Secret Garden”.

因為這樣的環境，坪洲吸引了越來越多的藝術家進駐，讓坪洲增添了一番藝術情懷。但如果要說坪洲最藝術的地方，就不得不說坪洲秘密花園。

My Secret Garden is a leather factory, a Grade 3 historical building, an Airbnb, as well a garbage dump. Let me tell you the story. Around 40-50 years ago, Peng Chau was famous of industry and there were many factories on the island. Since the economic transformation of HK, factories were shut down, including this leather factory. The factory was left empty for decades and became a Grade 3 historical building.

坪洲秘密花園是一間牛皮廠、是一間三級歷史建築、是一間Airbnb，也是一個垃圾堆，讓我說說這裡的故事。四五十年前坪洲是工業興旺的時期，島上有很多工廠，包括這牛皮廠，不過後來香港工業式微，島上的工廠逐一倒閉，也包括這牛皮廠，自此一直空置多年，更成為了三級歷史建築。

A few years ago, Sherry, a resident of Peng Chau thought it’s so wasting left empty and she rented the factory. She spent 6 years to renovate the 4000 square meters factory to be an art space and Airbnb. My Secret Garden is live, spending around $3M HK dollars.

The entrance of My Secret Garden is so secret, hiding in a small street. You can easier miss it. Through the corridor, we can already see graffiti and art works.

數年前，坪洲居民Sherry覺得這牛皮廠空置了十分可惜，便租下了這廠，花了足足六年時間將這4000平米的牛皮廠改建成藝術空間及Airbnb，命名為坪洲秘密花園，當中花了數百萬港幣！
坪洲秘密花園的入口隱身在小街裡，如果你不留意，真的很容易錯過這個入口！走過入口經過一條殘舊的走廊，已見到滿牆的塗鴉和藝術品。

Into the garden, there are number of art works. All components were rubbish of resident on the island. Sherry collected all rubbish and reuse them. She also updated all art works once a month.

穿過走廊，滿眼都是不同的藝術裝置，這些藝術裝置的組成，都是由場主收集島民的廢物而成，經過場主的佈置，形成藝術的氛圍。據說場主約每個月都會重新佈置，保持這地方的新鮮感。

One side of the garden is an old building, which is now Airbnb. But someone was living inside so I couldn’t take photos. Just shoot the outside!

花園的一邊是殘舊的小屋，現在是民宿，不過有人居住，我就不能進房間拍照了，只能在房外走走。這裡很有癈置工場的感覺，到處都像是垃圾堆，不過是經過佈置的垃圾堆！

Another side should be a big garden. But now it’s a construction site? Maybe there is some big project happening.

至於另一邊，本來是一個花園，但現在卻在大興土木，不知道是場主有什麼新玩意，還是這裡要重建了？

My Secret Garden is free to visit and take photo. Sherry wish visitors may know more about the history and art of Peng Chau. I can only say she is so rich! Accounting to articles on the web, the leasing agreement will end in two years. We don’t know if the owner will extend the agreement or not. So the life of My Secret Garden may end in 2 years. Please don’t miss it.

這個坪洲秘密花園，除了民宿外，其他地方都是免費參觀，免費拍照。場主希望借這地方推廣坪洲歷史及認識坪洲的藝術一面。我倒是想，場主真有錢啊！據說這裡還有兩年就租約期滿了，到時候業主會不會續租都是未知之數，所以大家如果來到坪洲，倒不要錯失參觀這地方的機會了！
