END THE ROC
It is in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona that Nook Architects signs this new renovation of an apartment, the fifth in this building!
With the experience of previous projects in mind, this time the architects decided to remove everything they considered superfluous, leaving them with a clean and structural enclosure and granting them a greater degree of freedom. The request of the owners was to develop a house with a double room, a kitchenette, a dining room, a living room and a full bathroom. Each of the different uses has been arranged to be connected directly to the outdoor space via the existing windows. As with previous projects, the day area is located along the main façade, taking advantage of the natural light from the balcony and window. The room, located at the back, a much quieter area of the apartment, is ventilated through a restored window. There is also access to the rear balcony through the adjoining bathroom, which itself doubles as a laundry room. Steel profiles were installed to reinforce the structural walls that developed cracks. The construction of the mezzanine above the bathroom and kitchen is the ideal place to store less frequently used goods. On the palette of colors and materials, the apartment mixes black and white for the walls, colored tiles and polished concrete for the floor and wooden beams for the ceilings.
