Bed-Stuy Loft

The New Affiliates New York studio has turned an old industrial space into Bedford-Stuyvesant's increasingly fashionable neighborhood, often shortened to Bed-Stuy, into a minimalist loft.

Designers have used unfinished materials, raw to maintain the original atmosphere, with apparent steel, raw plywood and wire mesh panels that serve to separate areas according to different activities. The added elements playfully interact with two large existing columns. The architectural intervention keeps an intimate space that mimics the outline of the column, or hugs it. Inspired by the contrast between minimalist geometry and rough materials, these old and new elements preserve the clean, light and continuous environment and maximize usable space. The interior walls are punctuated by large openings framing the views and providing natural light. A sleeping area is delimited by a floating white metal enclosure that visually separates and connects the two levels.
