Staircase perspective - Celebration of art! Seoul, South Korea.

Dongdaemun Design Plaza staircase art

My daily photo for World of Photography by @photocontests is from Seoul, South Korea. During my visit there, I had the chance to visit the Dongdaemun Design Plaza. What's interesting for the building itself is that it is covered with aluminium panels and has a very unique curvy shape, resembling a spaceship or something like!

The Dongdaemun Design Plaza’s exterior panel design is the world’s largest of its kind, and was constructed with 45,133 aluminum panels, literally all of them of different shapes, sizes and various levels of curvature. With the technology, existing during the time of design, these 45,000 panels would have taken up to 20 years to make!

Eventually, the company stumbled across some solutions while visiting a research institute, located and operating in China, which was having experiments at that time with a press machine to produce some rounded elements of a ship’s bow. It was then time for Samsung to build its own custom multi-point molding press machine, which was used to produce all the panels in much shorter periods.
