Lovely Ostend with the Sint Petrus en Pauluskerk
The three-aisled church in neo-Gothic style replaced the church, burned down on August 14, 1896, of which only the tower 'De Peperbusse' remains. Architect Delasencerie was inspired by the Dom of Cologne and the Votive Church of Vienna. Jan Baptist van Wint sculpted Peter, Paul and Mary on the façade. The pulpit and the stained-glass windows also depict scenes from the life of the patron saints and scenes from the gospel. Two historicizing fire windows represent the capture of Ostend and Saint Martin. Images of the four evangelists (van Braecke) adorn the pillars of the transept. The restored Schyvenorgel dates from 1907.
