Heavenly gates

Balinese architecture is exquisite!

One of the more noticeable or attention grabbing structures are their gates, or entrances... especially to their temples. To the uninitiated, the Balinese people have temples, usually elaborate structures some complete with its own compound and several structures even, right within their homes!

Usually a corner of their home compounds will be dedicated to their family temple and come complete with elaborate gates.

And that's what I have here today...

This is a Balinese gate!
I found this at one of the many temples in Bali, at the Batur village situated about 1,500m above sea level - see the mist behind it...
You might be familiar with the split gates or 'candi bentar', and this is the other of the two types, which is a roofed tower gate also known as the 'paduraksa' or 'kori agung'
It is adorned with guardian statues on either sides, with an exquisitely decorated door

A zoom-in on the elaborate door...
Usually scenes of mythical tales are part of the decoration on it
The 'kori agung' is the gateway to the inner compound of the temple
