Gem of the day: Floating Neighborhood/House

Hi Steemians, as I mentioned in the previous post Floating House 1, it always has been a project that I had dream about for a long time.

Therefore, today I would like to continue sharing Floating House around the world.

What else is better to start with is the Floating houses in Netherlander. I would consider Netherlands as one the country with the most floating structure.

It is no doubt that the country are currently moving toward floating structure (mainly for houses) to combat rising sea level. Considering that one third of the country is below sea level and recorded lowest point in the country is 6.7 meter below sea level. So floating house could become a trend for now and future.

For your information, due to the case of beneath sea level, you could find a bridge meant for ship to cross over a road in the Netherlands.

As shown in the first image, it located in Amsterdam, Ijburg neighborhood and it was the first floating neighborhood, and has 97 houses and it will grow and constructing more 18,000 homes for 45,000 people. The entire neighborhood rest on four artificial islands that are connected to each other and the rest of the city via bridges.

To make the house unsinkable, building floating structure are constructed with concrete and fill with Styrofoam for buoyancy.

Conclusion

Netherlands has the unusual landscape that make floating house so much feasible to be constructed and mass produce for the public. Rising sea level is one of the major threat (According to NOAA it will continue to rise at a rate of about one-eighth of an inch per year) that challenge, and floating house could be one of the major solution for other country who share the similar problem.
