Archisteem 14: Hypothetical Illustration #6: Treehouse proposal at Kundasang, Sabah

in #archisteem6 years ago (edited)

Hi Steemians, sorry for the long wait for a post about proposing tree hotel. In my previous post Archisteem 12: An Architecture Curation a day: Tree Hotel - Make your lodge disappear into thin air, I mentioned that readers would be expecting a proposal of mirror structure in my hometown. As promised, I will deliver the proposal with detailing upon location selection, material usage, structure size, types of trees and some building plans that you could refer and perhaps would make it as open source for others to download and modified based on their needs.

Selection of location

The site selection would be located at Kundasang, to promoted alternative homestay or accommodation experience for visitors. Current accommodation characters are mostly constructed on the ground with level concrete bedding or foundation. Furthermore, waking up in a cozy morning and greeted by Mount Kinabalu on a bed inside the tree hotel, a mild swing with the trees give you a calm and excitement staying experience.

Which lucky tree will be tree Hotel Main Structure

I always notice there are plenty of pine trees along Jalan Tampruli- Ranau and in Kundasang area. Therefore, I would propose a tree house on one or multiple pine trees and because Safety is essential, I must Choose a tree that is sturdy enough to support a tree house. So, I went for research for a similar case study to proof pine tree are just good enough for a tree house.

Found the case study Tree house in the Pines. Even though the case study proved it could be built on a pine tree, we might take in consideration of the species might not the same and does not have the similar compression and tensile strength of it.
But in this case, we assume it is and further inspection of the tree must be done for the future project.

The design

The tree-hotel design will be designed with a layout similar to a studio unit equipped with bathroom, a kitchenette, and a living area. In addition, the design also will be incorporated a balcony and a rooftop jacuzzi that exposes to open air and shrouded among the trees and a majestic view of Mount Kinabalu and landscape.

So see how the design looks like

The plan consists of spaces similar to a studio unit (an open plan layout between bed, balcony, living and kitchen with an enclosed bathroom).

Furthermore, the rooftop has a rooftop jacuzzi that could be accessed through a roof hatch with built-in ladder.

Similar approach to the mirror tree hotel, this proposal also adopting the mirrored façade.

Rooftop Jacuzzi concept probably is the only breath-taking view. However, it poses an issue of falling off in this design, but to those who make an improvement based on this model, you must address this issue.
