DONKEY KONG - Memories of a childhood.
AWESOME MEMORIES
My personal connection with this game is that it was because of it - which, by the way, I met through a teacher at school when I was 7 in a very funny art class - that I started liking monkeys (because until then I found them very bland animals).
So, once I started playing this game, I easily became addicted and my parents even had to intervene in it... Because I spent really a lot of time playing this game. Yes, it was another part of my childhood that was excellent and again, it's great to be able to remember them as I write this post.
Great times, enjoyed in the best possible way! Sometimes I wish I had the power to go back in time.
THE GAME
One of the biggest and most fun classics of the series developed for the arcade console, Donkey Kong was created by Shigeru Miyamoto and initially released in the "mini-game" version.
In the form of a crossover (a feat that at the time was seen as something innovative and revolutionary by expert critics and players) with the character Mario (from the series Super Mario Bros.), the story of the game revolves around a gorilla who kidnaps Pauline . This creates a rivalry between him and Jumpman (Mario's "baptism" name), who must defeat him to rescue the young woman in his power.
THE BEGINNING OF EVERYTHING (Making History)
A pioneer in the style of games called "platform" (considered by many as the first - until then - game of this segment made in history), in him the player lives in the skin of the Jumpman, and with him uses a skill not yet explored in the season: the functionality of the jumps.
Through it, it's possible to jump between places with complicated accesses (like cracks or breaches) and also to destroy obstacles and to defeat the enemies that appear.
The game only ends when Pauline is rescued and to reach it the player must overcome the various levels that are imposed. The essence of the game is simple, but the same can not be said about its way of playing... If there is no strategic systematization by the player, the character will always fail at the same points (because there is a rhythm to win... it's only need just figure out how it works).
CHANGES FOR THE BETTER
It didn't take long for the game to start copying and instigating / inspiring the creation of other games of the same genre. This consolidated the success of the game and by virtue of that, with the passage of time, several other versions based on it were created.
However, the focus was changed (after creative updates): Jumpman left the spotlight because Donkey Kong takes over and the player starts to live in the skin of the gorilla facing new dangers in different scenarios.
The whole game has been modernized and gained new traits, new scenarios, new colors and, of course, new and electrifying dangers involving even more complicated enemies. It's interesting to note how such a simple game has managed to evolve so much and achieve the status it has today.
ISSUES (Curiosity)
It's worth mentioning that one of the most interesting curiosities about the game was the controversy that the name of the same generated (generating a lawsuit by Universal Studios in 1982).
At the time the name King Kong had already entered the market and as it was in the public domain, it ended up in a conflict of interests because they had similar nomenclatures (that contrasted in their objectivities).
The episode was widely known as one of the biggest rivalries in the gaming world (because nothing like this had happened so far). It's still vivid content in the minds of the oldest fans around the world and which today is seen by many as something "funny".
RECOGNITION OUT OF GAMEPLAY
The success that this little monkey made among the players was so great that it had the strength to generate a TV show, different kind toys, puzzles and inspire an entire generation in terms of popular culture (like cosplays and custom products).
Donkey Kong has a very simple design (but that doesn't make it a less interesting experience... quite the contrary), but because it was built based on unpublished aspects, it becomes very relevant for being able to launch trends and serve as a reference for many other games that today are also famous and loved by the public.
