One of the elements of the armament of the ancient warrior was the kisten. Kisten is a flexible cold weapon of shock action. Shock cargo was attached with a chain or rope to a wooden handle. Perhaps the rope or chain with the cargo was hiding in the sleeve, for an unexpected blow to the enemy, through a sharp blowout and defeat of the enemy due to surprise.
Such effective and cheap weapons were widely used in the X-XVII centuries in Europe and Asia, most often they were used in equipping a mounted warrior.
Kysten was widely used by the civilian population for self-defense, as well as robbers and bandits. This effective weapon has reached and to our days, in the nineties of the last century it enjoyed special popularity in the gangster environment.
The kisten found by me can be attributed to the times of the Roman Empire. The fact that the bronze weights were used for their intended purpose and broke more than one enemy's head, can be judged by the characteristic dents (which are visible in the photo). The weight of the brush is 90 grams, it is difficult to underestimate the injuries that he could inflict on the unprotected head of the enemy.
