Many people think that spiders are insects but they are mistaken since insects have six legs and three main body parts. Most insects have wings.
Tarantulas comprise a group of large and often hairy arachnids belonging to the Theraphosidae family of spiders, of which approximately 900 species have been identified. This article only describes members of Theraphosidae, although some other members of the same suborder are commonly referred to as "tarantulas". Most species of tarantulas are not dangerous to humans, and some species have become popular in the exotic pet trade.

Yes, knew that since I was about 12 years old. Spiders are 8-legged and insects are 6-legged.

The ones in our area are cool. I understand their bite isn't any worse than a bee sting, but I don't plan on finding out. They're really docile creatures, and great to have around. I wonder if we could get them to move in and compete with some of the less desirables.
