Aquaponics Made Simple

in #aquaponics7 years ago (edited)

Notice the produce becoming less palatable at your local grocery? Have you noticed the prices for fruits and vegetables that seem tasteless?
Aquaponic systems are cheap and easy to build. Just completed a coarse in building and maintaining aquaponic systems. Systems use tilapia and most any vegetables. The fish amonium waste give the vegetables their flavor. Without the fish waste your vegetables will taste what has been described as "woody". Food companies discard or sell cheaply 275 and 330 gallon plastic totes which are the water collection apparatus and hold the fish. You can use a lot of varieties of fish, but tilapia thrive the best. Use a 15 dollar solar pump to circulate the water for oxygen. Order the live tilapia ovet the Internet. The totes are surrounded by an aluminum frame and are stackable. I loaded them in my truck alone. The totes also have forklift ports. Located near the bottom is a gate valve with a 2 inch threaded opening. Use cheap 2 inch pvc parts to reduce down to a 3/4 inch watet hose fitting.
Your now able to redirect the water into your vegetables. I redirected the rainwater off my roof into the totes.
