Jony Ive Leaves Apple, End of An Era

If you're an Apple fan and even if you're not an Apple fan, you would probably admire the design of their products. Ever since Steve Jobs returned to Apple in the late 90s, the design of their products has been the main focus of the company.

Even though Jobs had a lot of say in the design language, it was Jony Ive, who had joined Apple in 1992, who was the master mind behind the beloved products that Apple kept releasing since late 90s.

The iconic iMac that turned the fortunes around for Apple, the iPod that set Apple towards the path of glory, the iPhone that changed smartphones forever, the iPad, Macbook laptops, were all designed by Jony Ive and his team and they truly helped distinguish Apple from the rest of the corporations.

Apple, one of the most powerful and successful tech companies in the world, owes its rise and status to the gorgeous products that it has shipped for more than two decades. So, it's an end of an era when the lead man responsible for all that, is leaving Apple.

End of An Era

Last week news broke out that Jony Ive was leaving Apple and it took the tech world by surprise. After almost 30 years at Apple, he is leaving to create his own design firm, but he will continue to work with Apple on several projects, as the design firm has been contracted to work with Apple.

So, even though he may no longer have a direct and most influential say on the direction of design of future Apple products, we could continue seeing a touch of Jony's design philosophy, especially because the rest of the team is still there.

It will be interesting what products or other things Ive will design next and whether his design firm will be contracted by other tech companies to one up their products' design.

Apple is going through the second biggest change right now since Steve passed away and handed the reigns to Tim Cook. The company has changed in a lot of ways, for better or worse and the same can be expected now as well. Hopefully Apple continues shipping products that look as visually aesthetic as always.

This is not good news and bothers me more than when Scott Forestall left. The bright side is that they will continue to work with him. Let's cross our fingers and hope for the best!

Yeah, it could turn out to be really bad for Apple because his design philosophy is what has been guiding them all these years but if he does continue to work with them on the new products, it might not be even noticeable.
