Like every year, Apple is hosting its World Wide Developers Conference (2019) which began with the keynote address on Monday and like every year, I was watching it live on Apple's website. Apple announces new updates to its many popular software platforms and sometimes presents hardware updates too.

At WWDC 2019, Apple announced iOS 13, an entirely new iPad OS, macOS Catalina, new versions of tvOS and watchOS, the highly awaited update to Mac Pro and some really innovative tools for developers to enable them to make even better apps in a way that's easier than before.

As you can see, it was a jam-packed event and lasted more than 2 hours. There is so much stuff to talk about and I'm going to just dive in.

tvOS

So, Tim Cook started off with tvOS. After many iterations, it is getting a refreshed home screen with live previews of tv shows and movies playing in the background as soon as you turn it on.

Also, tvOS will be getting multi user support so that every member of a family can have their own particular sets of recommendations and preferences.

Apple Music also gets really better on tvOS as songs will now display in-sync lyrics with beautiful fonts so you can sing along!

WatchOS 6 is getting incremental updates this year, that make owning an Apple Watch that much more pleasant. It's the little things that count and that's what Apple has delivered here.

As with previous updates, watchOS is getting even more watch faces that are a blend of function and aesthetics. It's also getting a new Audiobooks app for on the go listening, a voice memo app and a calculator app.

WatchOS is also finally getting its own App Store which will be a huge deal for developers. On top of that, developers will now be able to make independent apps for watchOS that don't require a companion iPhone app. Apple Watch sure is becoming a completely independent device over time.

Of course a watch update wouldn't be complete without health feature updates. Activity trends will allow users to track their health data over longer terms. Hearing Health will monitor the sound levels near you and notify you if they are loud enough to cause hearing loss over time. Cycle tracking app will allow women to track their menstrual cycles, which will also be available on iPhone.

iOS 13

iOS always gets the majority of updates and attention from both the users and the developer community for obvious reasons. It's one of the most popular operating systems on the planet and users love it. Craig Federighi, Apple's SVP of software engineering was on stage to announce the iOS updates.

iOS will now have even better performance with version 13. Apps will launch twice as fast and unlocking with FaceID will be 30% faster, app downloads will be 50% smaller in size and app updates will be 60% smaller.

To much cheer, Federighi finally announced dark mode on iOS which was a much requested feature for the longest time. The apps all look really nice with a dark look to them. This not only is easy on the eyes but will also save battery which is a huge plus.

There are also some UI refreshments here and there with the Reminders app getting a complete redesign. The Maps app gets A LOT more details with a new "street view" like feature called "look around", which even lets you move down the streets seamlessly as if you were literally driving there.

There are new security and privacy updates as well. Like, the ability to use randomly generated email addresses to log in to sites that require a log in so that you don't give out your actual email id, the ability to record and store 10 days worth of footage from your home security camera on the cloud which won't be counted against your free cloud storage.

Siri is getting better too with a more natural human sounding voice. When you're using Airpods, Siri will read you your messages as soon as they come and you'll be able to reply immediately with just your voice. The Carplay interface is getting an update as well.

These are only the major features that Apple announced on the stage but it is getting a plethora of smaller updates that will make iOS much more functional and easier to use.
