My mother is sick, a maniac.
She cleans and vacuums day and night
and if the carpet does not look right
she tells us, her kids, to write a note and stick it on the door.
"I am delivering a baby, please, come back tomorrow after four pm. I will be back by then."
She keeps vacuuming the carpet's nap
till it all faces in the same direction.
Who knows her can see the satisfaction
on her face, after all the hours she spent,
day after day,
it is the Hoover vacuum cleaner who is her closest friend.

Oh sad (traurig!) - the Hoover vacuum cleaner who is her closest friend -
there must be a gene for neat and clean in German mothers. There's a scene I love in “Sirius: A Novel About the Little Dog Who Almost Changed History” by Jonathan Crown. In the battered streets of Berlin after the war, a Hausfrau is out with her broom, sweeping, because.... well, you know why! You're German too!!!! (Well, you speak German, anyway, and I have it in my gene pool, so never mind how inaccurate I am with words.)
I think in this case it is a disease if cleaning is more important as your work.
I believe there are certain women who are extremely overdoing.
If we wanted to go upstairs my mother vacuumed underneath our feet first...

HaHa! Your mother the maniac and a perfectionist. I know of a woman who vacuums every morning before work and again before she goes to bed. But I don't think her vacuum is her best friend like your mother's is to her. LOL!
My mother cleaned 3x a day, even our feet and we had a housekeeper, maid and 2 cleaning ladies.
She had more tics and I really felt ashamed as a friend asked me: What is she doing?
She pulled the curtains downwards and kept repeatinfg while doing so: 1, 2, 3 around the corner, 1, 2, 3...
Its over 40 years ago and I still hear and see her doing it.

It can become an obsession that a clean house is more important than the comfort of the people living there. I know many women like that and I have said, “Your house will be there after you are dead and gone so don’t worry so much if it’s not perfect.”
That reminds me- my house could use a good vacuuming. 😊
I can send my mother over. That way her house stays clean.
My brother once told me making her bed was such an endless task she started sleeping on the floor.
