I wish Appics Would Quit Shitting On the Steem Blockchain!

in #appics5 years ago

As many of you have probably noticed by now there has been a massive influx of Appics posts appearing on the Steem blockchain of late which is absolutely great for the Appics platform but to be quite honest the majority of the posts are absolute 'shit post' that contain a selfie and some small blurb that lacks any substance at all.

The thing that really bugs me is that absolutely nowhere on the Appics site itself do they mention either Steem or Steemit or how all the posts made via Appics will be posted to the Steem blockchain. I get it though that the Appics folks want to build their brand, on-board new users and become the Instaspam (oops I mean Instagram) of the dApp world which is fine and dandy but for fuck's sake I wish that they would please do it without degrading the quality of content found on Steemit!

Given the kind of grief that gets doled out on here over 'low quality' posts you would think that more curators would be voicing how absolutely fucking lame the majority of Appics posts are but instead what I am seeing is more and more curators resteeming such posts which totally (in my far from humble opinion) contradicts the very essence of curating quality content!

Of course I know that this will be an unpopular post and of course I will be called a 'hater' for my unpopular view, or be deemed being negative but for fuck's sake @Appics is like a bad neighbor's dog that not just shits in your yard but also gets into the trash at every opportunity and spreads it all over your yard!

The two solutions I see are either introduce some tag filters so we can filter out such posts or encourage the Appics folks to develop their own blockchain and quit shitting on the Steem blockchain.

Have a nice day or something and feel free to downvote or leave negative feedback on this post because after all it is not just some selfie with a meaningless blurb!

I noticed the same thing, WTF is APPICS doing? Do they even have a mobile app?

Look like just link to a dumbed down webview of the posts that look like shit on everything else than a small mobile screen.

Supposedly they have an Android and iOS app but I have not personally looked at either of the apps to see how they operate.

Their motto seems to be "We didn't raise the standard - we created it." Which is total horseshit because they are just operating on the Steem blockchain and giving no credit to Steem!

I am glad that I am not the only one noticing what they are doing.

We get this but to a much lesser degree on Whaleshares. Most of them are done in photo challenges though so I can't get too mad, I just don't tip them. The weird thing is that Whaleshares was promoting Facebook and Twitter-like posts so you would expect it to be more predominant. I suppose that when people aren't getting rewarded, they will just quit doing the thing and we will all be better off in the end.

There are also a lot of people that just like to see a photo but I think they enjoy seeing actually good photos. A picture of an idiot doing a kissy-lip pose in a gas station bathroom mirror wouldn't really warrant a post, IMHO.

HAHAHA!

INDEED!

We have to siphon our feelings of what is "quality" and turn our attention to what draws viewership and influence. Appics, while hardly novel in innovation does bring a secondary market demand for Steem as well as offering "normies" an opportunity to participate.

I would much rather that we have a billion users posting selfies than 30k users posting essays which nobody outside of the steem echo chamber will care to read.

That said, I do not use appics and I agree that some filtering on Steemit.com - which has some what established itself as a "quality content" (really?) platform, would do a lot of good for users expecting the traditional steemit.com experience.

Definitely something to think about there @honeybee.

Well.... Appics had a contest going where you could win 5,000 APX .... i think it ended yesterday. So maybe things will slow down. I was monetizing my TikTok videos Sharing on Appics.... maybe the Appics posts should not appear on Steemit.com ? I made about 500 APX in 1 week sharing my TikTok videos on Appics .... when it’s easy $$$ people get carried away.

I saw you were doing that @offgridlife. It is not all the Appics posts...just the majority of them that have me going What The Fuck!

It really does seem like they should be posting to their own blockchain or at the very least letting their users know that the posts will be appearing on the Steem blockchain. They are literally the first dApp that I have seen that give zero acknowledgement to utilizing the Steem blockchain.

Yeah.... I agree with you. However.... I think that Appics could tap into the huge 500 Million users on TikTok to brink some real content creators to Steem and Appics though. ... there is some very good cinematography over there. Looking for a way to monetize their videos.

Indeed they could but are they really bringing those users to Steem or to Appics? Dig through their site and see for yourself that they are not acknowledging Steem at all.

In my opinion it seems a bit shady and also extremely discourteous to all the developers that have put so much work into the Steem blockchain as well as all the developers that have built user interfaces like Steempeak, Busy, eSteem etcetera. I mean after all APX is just a Steem backed Token and not an independent cryptocurrency like their site pitches it to be.

I only found out about the new Appics app from all the Steemfest posts

I have tried so many crypto reward programs I have lost count..... they all seem to go to zero. I am hoping Steem can some day bounce back.

It seems like if Steem was going to truly tank it would have done it by now. Currently I think it is just experiencing growing pains after the demise of the bid bots. There is so much liquid Steem stuck on the exchanges and not really in circulation that I think it is devaluing it but what the hell do I know because economics has never been something that I excel at.

There is nothing wrong on Appics's end or those who use it. It is all on Steemit and other frontends to provide better content discovery or an Activity feed in which short form content posted through such apps can find its way as opposed to people's feeds.

Sayine that people/apps should change behaviours gets you nowhere. Also, Appics posting to Steem means they use RCs, so it adds value (more than most other apps and devs does)

No wonder, Appics = Goolag = Alphabet...
