PRP Has Not Endorsed Governorship Candidate of Any Other Party in Kano Rerun Election
As the re-run of the Kano State Governorship election draws closer, the People's Redemption Party (PRP) which came third in the election is telling everyone that it is not true it has endorsed any other governorship candidate other than its own for the re-run poll scheduled for next Saturday. The party said nothing could be farther from the truth from any suggestion of it abandoning its governorship candidate who came third in the March 9th, 2019 governorship election in the state, adding that it would not augur well for the party to do so for the reason that the APC has spent the last four years earning the same level of anger and disappointment from Nigerians as the PDP government that Nigerians voted out in 2015 “as a show of collective disagreement with the descent of the country into bad governance”.
Recalling the keenly contested election that was subsequently declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), PRP’s National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Abdul Gombe, noted that it cast a spell in the eyes of even the ordinary man for anyone to insinuate that after proving to be an emergent third force in Kano, Kaduna and some other Northern states in the last two elections, it would sheepishly cave in by endorsing a candidate of another political party in Kano.
"It is obvious that PRP is reaping from the discontent within the two major parties, All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and there is no way it will relinquish its current position as an emergent third force in Northern politics by endorsing a candidate from among these two parties”, said the National Publicity Secretary who added how implausible that could be at a time the other parties are, according to him, already jittery of the growing popularity of PRP among the common people after its recent repositioning “with determination and strategy to win the confidence of Kano people”.
The party's position, said the statement, is for its members to vote for any candidate of their choice in the rerun poll billed for March 23rd, 2019 rerun poll.
