Happy Weekend, Steem Fam! Here in SA we have a long weekend! Monday is Heritage Day, or National Braai Day as we have dubbed it here in SA! Braai is barbecue for those of you who don’t know!

I am super excited to share with you this AMAZING collectors cabinet I sourced this week for my shop.

It’s a beautiful piece, crafted as only an antique could be. Sturdy, extremely heavy, and with each and every drawer sliding so smoothly into its slot.

When I saw it at the auction house, the doors were closed, with no indication of the many drawers inside.

Every other person in the room just walked past it, but I went to have a closer look (I don’t know why - as just a cupboard it’s quite plain) and when I saw the drawers inside I quickly closed the doors so no one else could see! 😂

I believe it’s original use to have been for displaying stamps, or perhaps butterflies, but the top two drawers on either side are taller than the others so I think they must have been for some sort of tools, and this makes me think it’s for stamps 💓

🦋 Did you know that a person who collects butterflies is called a lepidopterist? 🦋

I am absolutely infatuated with this piece and can’t wait to see it go to it’s perfect home. I love it when a client is looking for the perfect piece and I am able to help. This piece is on reserve already and I’m sure it will be sold soon!

Ugh - I'm addicted to drawers because having 1 drawer for every specific thing I own/collect is the only way my brain can handle 'cleaning up'. But anything with (good quality) drawers in it is sooo expensive! This looks like a dream to me and you should tell off that other person and ship it to me here :')

Lolol really? So you have a sock drawer, a knife drawer?

It is a pretty amazing piece. I just wish the outside was prettier... but it kind of make sense that it is plain... because of it being 1930’s and a collectors piece, I don’t know if I am getting my joights across eloquently 💓😂

Hahahahahaha! That's hilarious @soyrosa, that your brain needs drawers for everything.
magics the cabinet to Soyrosa's room

@princessmewmew, I love the excitement that comes through your words. This surely is a unique piece. Quite a find! My absolute favourite antique shop discovery was an enormous mirror with a massive wood frame that belonged at the end of a castle hallway. It took my breath away.

Oh that sounds amazing! I’d want to know all about the castle and it’s history!

Did you buy it?

Wow. That is so cool. I mean that is a really astounding piece.

My first thought was gems or stones. Stamps generally are in specially made books, but maybe insects. I wonder why the outside was made so plain? Religious requirements?

Thanks for sharing a just stupid cool piece.

I also wonder about the plainness, but I would say perhaps it was supposed to be a manly piece, and that leads me to think it was a manly profession... the piece is 1930’s so I had all kinds of thoughts about Architects etc in Egypt, but I am really not sure.

Hmmmmm. Good thought.

I didn't say my real first thought. One of my best buds parents were huge collectors of Native culture. They were tomb raiders looking back, but I was completely fascinated by their collection. This cabinet would have been perfect for their arrowhead collection. They ranged from teeny fish and small game (rabbits) to large 'man sized' items made of a wide variety of stones and bone. This cabinet could have been made for that collection.

I wonder if it held spectacles?

@princessmewmew you see you have a buyer, soyrosa wants to buy it, she has steems lollollol

Haha, steem is more valuable than my currency!

WOW what a seriously cool cabinet, I can imagine many collectors would love to have it for their collection whether butterlies coins stamps or who knows what

Yeah totally! Whenever I buy a piece I always try to think of a modern use for it, with this one I was thinking watches and ties or something like that.

Yes it would be good with both of those, before i got into smart watches I could have filled about 5 of those drawers with watches

I see you have a good eye for antiques! This is a very beautiful and interesting piece, @p. It does look like an entomological piece of furniture (which studies insects). That green fabric seems to be there to protect the stored items. Congratulations! You took a beautiful and valuable piece. Hugs

Yes, I work in an antique store @nancybriti! That’s the beauty of antique pieces, unless it is very obvious, you sometimes will never know what a piece was made to be used as!!

wow..that was cool cabinet, you can put everything you want as long as it is fit,it is cool to put more collections and souvineir on that cabinet..

God Bless!

Thank you very much!

Welcome Miss Princess

Wow dear @Princessmewmew the Princess of SA these are awesome and very good in condition.

God bless you dear Mam.

Oh heavens I love these sort of pieces, with drawers and drawers and more drawers! Little hidey holes and cubbies are always intriguing to me especially for one who such a magpie or crow of a collector of bits and bobs :)
