And here’s proof: in the upper left hand corner, right under the two-headed eagle, it says 1896!

I inherited it from my grandma and she inherited it from, well, someone else I guess, as she herself was only born year 1918.

This is actually a candy box from a very famous Moscow chocolate factory called “Einem” (Эйнемъ). Sometime after the revolution of 1917, the company was renamed to “Red October” (Красный Октябрь).

This was no shabby candy shack: the lid shows the view on the factory from the Kremlin.
-- DID YOU CATCH THAT? – FROM the Kremlin! How cool is that!
Here are the four sides of the box:

-- a very famous cathedral in Moscow.

-- Monument to Minin and Pozharsky, the Red Square.

-- a view on the Kremlin.

-- the Tsar Bell

So here you go, this is probably the oldest candy box you'll EVER see here on Steemit!
I think this fact alone deserves a serious upvote :)

And in conclusion:

STAY SWEET STEEMIANS!

Respect the Whales!

Be nice to the Dolphins!

Take compassion on the poor little Minnows!

So this is priceless to you, but I wonder what its value would be if it was on the antique road show? I wonder what the Chocolate tasted like.

I actually wondered the same thing on occasion. ...and the taste :) The chocolate was exclusive back in the day, that's for sure, as they really made sure the packaging corresponded with the quality.
You reminded me: I'll have a box of vintage liquor to price, will post it soon. Not as old, but very rare. Thanks for the interest shown @sighmanjestah!

Very welcome!

maybe so.
now
but I visited with my wifes grandmother
back in the day.
mid sixties.
she was born before then.

Ok, I'm fine with being second Boss :D

ummm...no.
her son lived to be 105..
he just died a few months ago.

wow, 105...

yup...sad story...he was in perfect health...in GREAT shape for his age.
but all of his peers had died.
he'd out lived TWO wives...he'd been married to one for fifty years..after she died he married an old friend and they lived together until SHE died..for twenty some years.
I expect that it was getting to be VERY heartbreaking...to see everyone you knew and love die.
the last straw was when his oldest daughter passed away.

Jack was (more)heartbroken than ever before.

He basically lost the will to live....so he died.

Amazing story. My respect to the man and everyone he loved.

thank you...i'm sure he'd appreciate it'
I'm closer to 70 than I am to 60...and in my entire lifetime I've never met a better man.
He was the next best thing to a saint as I've ever seen.
