protagonist of this story, Aichi Sendou, is a shy young man in his third year of junior high. He has lived his life looking back rather than forward, trying not to stand out. However, he has one thing that keeps him going - Blade Blaster, the card of the card game given to him when he was a kid. Card That's the reason why he started getting involved in cardfights, something that changed his life drastically. The name of the Vanguard card game. The game takes place on different planets called "Cray", and since the play system was never seen before, it became popular all over the world.
Aichi, immediately attracted by Vanguard, meets friends like Misaki Tokura and Kamui Katsuragi, along with other rivals.

Through friendly competition with them, Aichi began to enjoy a fulfilling life. Aichi, however, has a goal: to once again battle with a cardfighter under the name Toshiki Kai, a high school kid aloof and cool-hearted who possesses amazing abilities in the Vanguard world. He is also the reason why Aichi started playing games. To him, Kai is the one who introduced him to Vanguard and saved him from his boring life. In order to get better at the game, Aichi puts her heart into it every day. He hopes that someday, he will be able to battle Kai and ask him to realize his abilities.
Aichi's efforts at Vanguard eventually led him to join Kai, Misaki, and Kamui to form the Quadrifoglio Team (Q4).

Together, they enter regional and national tournaments to test their skills against fighters from all over Japan. One particular opponent encountered was Aichi Ren Suzugamori, a powerful but despicable cardfighter who was the leader of the Asteroid Team and was once a friend of Kai. Ren eventually makes Aichi awaken the power that he also has: Psyqualia, a psychic ability like that allows its users to predict victory in cardfights. However, Aichi's use of Psyqualia slowly destroys himself to become a dark person like Ren. But thanks to Kai's efforts, Aichi decides to no longer use Psyqualia and move on to normal self. He and Team Q4 will then go on to defeat Asteroid Ren and the team at the next national tournament and become the Japanese national champion.
