Ok, let's roll this list and finally bid farewell to the Summer 2018 anime season for real lol.

10. Yama no Susume: Third Season (Encouragement of Climb Season 3)

Genres: Adventure, Comedy, Slice of Life

First of all, do forgive me for insisting on this show too much but I just have to do it because I deem this as one of the most under-appreciated anime, not only this season mind you. This summer season didn’t offer that much Slice of Life shows, but I am thankful that a third season was made for this series to fill that void. It has the vibe that Yuru Camp emits so I am astounded to see that only few knows of this one yet the latter has been well received and recognized. I don’t know if the fact that it has a short airing time is the cause or entirely something else but I just can’t let chances like this pass by so here I am promoting it again lol.

As I said above, it emits the same vibe as Yuru Camp, but instead of camping it is hiking hence the title. As one would have guessed already, this falls on the cute girls doing cute things category and of course revolves with a circle of friends mostly composed of girls. The show is the kind of show that you would like to watch to ease up with all the heavy stuff without suffocating by laughing too much because if you prefer the latter then we have Asobi Asobase for that.

Anyway the show is not just about the girls doing cute things, they also climb mountains and provides insights on how tough mountain climbing really is, a good direction for me since most of the time shows like this tend to gloss over the rough parts. However,after the hard climb comes the wonderful part, the majestic sight that unites people and makes all of the hardships worth it, the feeling of accomplishment and fulfillment that is the primary factor that drives these girls to climb. As cliche as it may sound, believe me when I say that the show presented those feelings realistically and because they emphasized the difficulties that the characters have to go through, it made the successful climb of the girls multiple times more fulfilling.

The show also offered top notch animation and the fact that they animated minute details that not everyone would have paid attention to, is another reason why I fell hard with this series. The visuals and background images, not only when they are climbing but also when they are in their town, everything is picturesque and looks really well made. The amount of dedication and passion that went into making this series is not something to scoff at, give it a shot and thank me later.

By the way the songs are also catchy and the upbeat tune emits positive vibes, that are so strong it will make you feel like singing along. My favorite track from the series is the first song from its first season titled Staccato Day's and watching its MV has never failed to make me smile and bounce to the beat. Just a reminder though that the series has a fairly short run time, first season had 3 minutes per episode that has a total of 12 episodes; the second has 24 episodes and the third has 13 episodes, both have 13 minutes of run time per episode.

11. Overlord III

Madhouse made a third season of Overlord?

As expected of Ainz-sama!

The crushing of bugs continues as Ainz and the gang slaps every being in the story the reality of how absurdly overpowered they are compared to the so called “strongest” warriors of the human race (at least in name they are). To anyone reading this without an inkling of knowledge about what this series is, to make things simple, imagine One Punch Man minus the sarcasm and comedic relief then amp up the savagery and carnage then as a final touch make the protagonists evil and there you have it, a dark fantasy story where every adversary that stands against the path of Ainz and his gang ends up in a bloody mess, that is not a figure of speech by the way.

During its second season we found ourselves in the depths of the forest watching Lizards breed, a fan service we need but don’t deserve and this time we were provided with Goblins (A lot of them) and the Legendary Hidden Eye H-series Protagonist Hair Cut during the first half of the season.

Yeah, doujin materials and as what a famous man of culture once said: “The doujins are writing themselves”. Then again, everything is within the calculations of Ainz-sama, as expected of the great one but honestly, I am not a fan of those episodes but they serve a purpose so it can’t be helped. Good thing the second half gave us back the good ol’ Overlord and what most fans like about the series, Nazarick’s pest control and extermination! Now we’re talking.

You might think that this is just a show about those overpowered characters taking down small fries, that talk big, you are not exactly wrong, I think I can watch these guys just pulverizing those arrogant pricks for one full season and still be fulfilled, however aside from that, don’t you think that having evil existence as protagonists is a rare find? That is my main reason for sticking with this, it is a nice change of pace witnessing the good-natured characters brimming with confidence and power of friendship falling against evil. If you are not fond of watching too much power up shows with friendship driving characters to win, then this will be a good watch for you.

12. Boku no Hero Academia 3rd Season (My Hero Academia 3)

The show is finally shaping to be Midoriya’s story, not that it wasn’t in its prior runs but due to the presence of a deus ex machina character, no problem seemed too big for the group to handle, however, now that that symbol is gone in the picture the young ones finally have to step up and take on the role of real heroes that will eventually clash with the league of villains that is getting more powerful by the day.

The first half of this season ended with a huge blast, literally. But due to the overwhelming impact of that scene, the second half drew the short end of the stick since coming out with something better than that monumental fight is going to be quite a hurdle. I am in not, in anyway saying that the second half is bad, but I believe the show has been in a cycle where every bout intensifies as we go further in the story from All might vs Nomu, Midoriya vs Todoroki, Midoriya vs Muscular and finally All Might vs All for One which without a doubt, at present, the most intense fight in the anime and we may have to wait longer to see a scene that will surpass it (coming from a non-manga reader so I might be wrong on this one).

Anyway, the second half is peaceful in most part and I think it serves as a buffer for when the much awaited heroes vs villains finally happen. There are new characters introduced and a certain someone finally got a good development, all I can say is that this is the calm before the storm and since a fourth season’s already been announced, it seems like we won’t be suffering from waiting too long. This still remains as one of the best in its genre and given the fact that it has been adapted this far and faithfully adapted at that, then the chance that we will see its end in anime format is not far from reality.

13. Shingeki no Kyojin Season 3 (Attack on Titan Season 3)

Shingeki no Kyojin is without a doubt one of the most well known title among all anime shows, not only in the community but even among non-anime peeps and the reason is as clear as day, it has a good mix of action, twists, mystery, drama, gore, and charismatic characters that is hard to replicate. This season though, the fight against titans has been put into a halt and they decided to clear some underlying mystery in the series and delved deeper in the political side of things which gave us a thrilling power struggle between the current administration and the scouts lead by the “right”-eous and “handy” commander Erwin. The actions and gambles made by Erwin was a great display of how much mental fortitude and levelheadedness he has despite the odds turning against him and his guys, but the highlight of the season of course is Levi’s chase scene, man that was one intense and thrilling piece of animation!

Another highlight of this season is the development made on Historia/ Krista, from a madonna that has the purpose of being ogled by the guys she was turned into a badass that punched Levi and lived to tell the tale. There is development made on Eren too, and for the first time we saw an emotion from Eren that defeated his desire for revenge against titans. Though he is more annoying and a bit kinky that time lol.

One thing I am not a fan of though is that in the end it is still humans vs humans, well I guess it is better than having aliens take the mantle of villains...again. Anyway the season’s second cour will air on April 2019 and because I went ahead and spoiled myself by reading the manga, I can only say one thing and that is you are in for another twisting ride so prepare a brace or something while it is still not on air, a great battle is about to ensue and this is on the scale that the anime has not yet showcased in the past. Prepare some incense while your at it lol.

I think that basically completes my Summer 2018 anime list and thanks to everyone who has read it in earnest (if there is one lol). I will probably make my Fall list after the shows entered at least 6 episode count since it is a bit too late for me now to make first impression list so to fill the gap I might write some non sensible articles again or I might go ahead and make a review of anime movies.
