in #anime7 years ago

We Never Learn is a manga series about a hard-working student who has to teach two genius girls so the three of them can get to enter the universities they want.

The story starts by introducing the protagonist Yugia Nariyuki who's a self-proclaimed prodigy, he went into this school because it has a special program where it choose it's best student each year and give him a "Special VIP Nomination" where the school pay their university tuition.

Too bad for him, he was facing two genius girls... one that unbeatable in math and science classes, and one who's the top at literature. In the "Nomination" day.. the headmaster accepted him under one condition: for him to teach both of these girls so they can get into the universities.

Thinking it would be easy to teach a genius he gladly accepted... Only to realize they both want to enter universities outside their specialty, and both of them fail constantly in each other's subjects. Seeing how they desperately want to study, and how they are similar to his childhood, he decides to teach them no matter how hard it seems.

The manga started great... the first (narrated paragraph) really good:

"The useless guy should strive to become someone who's useful." My dad used to say with a smile on his face. "The only one who can understand the useless guy feelings, is someone who was once useless."

Characters

Yugia Nariyuki

He is the main male character in this series, he tries his hardest to become the best student in the school so he can get the VIP nomination, He currently teaches 3 girls so they can get to the university they want.

He had a hard time studying in his childhood so he loves people who work hard. He is also oblivious to love.

Ogata Rizu

Is one of the series main characters. She is a science genius and gets the top grades in Math & Physics. She's nicknamed "Clockwork Thumbelina" in the school. But she is very terrible in Literature related topics which is a huge problem for her because her dream of studying psychology needs a deep understanding of Literature.

She along with Furahashi had many teachers to cover their weak points... all of them told them to give up. until Nariyuki came!!

Furahashi Fumino

One of the main three girls in the series, she's a genius in Literature and can make up a very touching story on the spot, this gave her the title "The Sleeping Beauty of Letters". But she's very bad with numbers and science which is a problem for her because her dream of studying Astrology needs a deep understanding of those.

She had many teachers along with Ogata to cover their weakness... But all of the teachers before Nariyuki told them to give up.

Takemoto Uruka

The third main heroine to be introduced. She is a "swimming" genius. not losing a single contest since middle school... This earned her the title "Ebony & Ivory Little Mermaid".

Her athletic ability can let her get a scholarship in a famous sport university but she has too low grade to enter it. So Nariyuki had to teach her English to get into that university.

Too bad this manga is a "Harem" romance manga (and it has Ecchi as genre)... If it only focused on the "study" part and removed the usual harem tropes I can say for sure that this manga will be the best "study/school" focused manga I ever read.

But well... I hope this manga ends in a good way... because it had a powerful start.

Sort:

Agreed, the harem tropes are overused.

I won't mind them if they make the story better.... but in this case the only use I find for them is to make this manga unnecessary longer.... I know it means more money for the creators. But I hoped a series like this use it's powerful story alone without catering to otaku tropes.

  • If it stayed with two girls only I'd be very happy... that's the thing I loved about Nisekoi before it introduced other characters.

Yea i hate this too, for example shokugeki no soma is ruined by it too.

That's too bad.... Japan is going in the direction I don't like at all....

Assalaamu alaikum @ahmadmanga
This is the first manga I'm seeing study focused too.
But to answer you question to real life situations, sometimes geniuses are lazy and don't work hard cos success and passes come easy for them.
