Meet Imi - Animal Care Austria - My stories as a volunteer photographer - Original photography
Meet Imi, he is the worker in the Hungarian Care Station in Kiskunlachaza, supported by Animal Care Austria.
He is living in a small caravan inside the shelter, together with his own dog Sormi and he's giving his whole life to these hundreds of dogs that he cares for and loves.
These dogs are his whole world.
During the last campaign shooting I did (which will soon be out and then I can tell you more about it), I used the opportunity to take a special photo of Sormi, as well.
And before going to visit the shelter this week, I decided to make him a little present and made a print of that photo, as a small "thank you" for everything that he does, to show our appreciation.
His reaction brought our whole team to tears, as he was so touched by this gesture and started crying!
Sometimes doing such a small thing for someone, can mean so much and bring so much joy!
At the moment, a group of volunteers from the US Navy (who are stationed in Austria), go to the shelter during the weekends and completely reconstructing the attic of the main shelter building. When finished, the space will be used for the shelter cats and will also include a small apartment for Imi, with propper toilets & shower, finally!
I will keep you guys updated with the progress of his apartment and in the next week I will write more about our latest visit to the Care Station.
And if you feel incouraged to come and help with the reconstructions, please contact: [email protected]
Thank you for reading and for your support!

Want to have your post on the map too?
Such a nice and heart warming story! I found myself chuckling in the middle of the story as sormi means a finger in finnish..
I find that volunteer work shows very often some distinct qualities within a person. Something grand.
Thanks for this one, truly a nice story to read on a Sunday afternoon with our own space otters (sight hounds) keeping me company.
:D I have no idea what Sormi means in Hungarian, but it's funny indeed!
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed reading this <3 <3 <3
Hugs to your fluffy ones!
Big fan and supporter of animal care austria! Keep fighting the good fight. I wish could adopt every single fluffy.
I found my soulmate there (qat):
Oh, I'm so happy to hear that!! Give that fluff-ball a good hug for me <3
(Wish I could adopt them all too!)
Oh, and I cried too reading your post. Very moving and heart-warming story, and the photos are gold, @shlomit! I'm hopeful and a bit sad at the same time now... I'm glad that they are receiving help, but also sort of worried about them. I send my love and care.
Thank you,
Klaudia
Thank you very much dear for your kind words <3
Yes, it is always sad & hopeful mixed together, and we are always so happy yet so sad to see these fur babies there...
Hugs
The Beatles song "A day in the Life" has an extra high-pitched whistle, audible only to dogs. It was recorded by Paul McCartney for the enjoyment of his Shetland sheepdog.
