Never a Dull Moment

My rescue pulled a pig from a nearby animal shelter a while back. This pig quickly became part of the family and we just kept him.

Hamlet often does ridiculous and downright funny things, like burying himself in hay and falling off the top of a flight of stairs--an incident that became known around @thewritersblock as The Great Pig Plummet of 2017. (If only I'd gotten that on video. . . .)

This week his hilarious contribution to our daily routine was his acquisition of an old dog box that was sitting on the hill beside the house. In the photo below, the box is already sitting down where he dragged it. Before, it was up on the hill that is just out of frame.

Hamlet gets turnout every day on a trolley. Yes, a regular dog trolley that's stretched between two trees. The dog box was in range of the trolley, but not where he could comfortably use it. So he proceeded to shove and heave and headbutt the thing until it was down on flatter ground where he could crawl inside and go to sleep.

He stayed in his box for hours. Whenever @catherine813 or I would get near, he'd grunt a warning. We left him alone until dinnertime, when all it took was the rattle of a bucket and he waddled out ready to eat.

I'm going to leave the box there for him. Lord knows how he managed to get it off the hill, or how long it took him. But he can have it. I wouldn't dare take it away after all that hard work he put into claiming it.
