Bailey's Second Trip To The Vet
Bailey, The Pup That Steemit Saved, Had A Checkup Today!
It's still too soon to call it a "clean bill of health;" only one week into treatment for mange mites, my rescue's veterinarian will note progress, but not cure. But progress there is! Bailey has gained six pounds! That's a lot for such a little fellow! And while he has to complete the prescribed course of treatment and quarantine, we can say definitively that he's responding well and improving. NOTE: The white and black dog shown in the video has been treated with Bravecto, and is quite literally the kiss of death for any flea or mite that takes a nibble of her blood. So she is impervious to the particular mange affecting Bailey.
He goes back in two weeks for more meds and his vaccine boosters. At that point we'll schedule his neuter and microchipping, and after that, he'll be placed up for adoption through our New England rescue partners. We have a feeling he won't be without a family long!
We will still need to raise funds for future vetting and for Bailey's neuter and microchip. A good estimate for that is $150 U.S. Dollars. So any donations of SBD or FIAT (through PayPal) is deeply appreciated. ( [email protected] )
Watch Bailey Having Fun At The Vet's Office
We may never fully understand the reasons people dump and abandon their pets. It's a marker of something broken not only in that individual's psyche, but in the society that produced them.
Bailey's people "put him out" on a busy highway in Southwest Virginia, no doubt hoping he'd find his way to someone who'd help him before he got flattened by a passing coal truck. We have no way to find out who did this, but the next best thing is calling for international awareness about the problems in Appalachia--problems that closely parallel the atrocities and cruelties toward animals we hear about in Third World and underdeveloped countries.
My Shawnee would love him. Molly won't wrestle or play bitey face. And he's just gotten cuter and cuter. Having Paige teach him some manners is going to make things easier for his future owners. Less they'll have to teach him about not playing rough and respecting boundaries!
Wow, he has come on in leaps and bounds!
He will make a great pet for a loving family.
Bailey look happy and healthy. I wish him well. Yes, a society is judged by the way it threats its animals. The more advanced the society is the better it will be towards its best friends. It is a nice writeup. We need more awareness.
Lovely to see him thriving. He sure got a lesson in manners, boundaries & behavior from that one dog. Seemed to respond well, so that's good.
Has a charming personality, I bet he'll find his forever home easily. Glad he was smart enough to get to you in the meantime!
:)
Yes! That's exactly why I included that clip. :-) He responded perfectly to the doggie discipline, which shows a very bright mind! Paige, the little white and black dog, is my personal dog and our rescue's diplomat. She has extraordinary social insight with other dogs, can defuse arguments and make peace with consummate skill. She is also a great disciplinarian and doesn't take it too far to the point of aggression. You can see her glance at me in the video to make sure I'm okay with the action she took. I replaced the audio with silly music, but in the original video, you can hear me telling her what a good job she did. :-)
Yeah she's a good girl. She tolerated the puppy enthusiasm a decent amount but she sure had him sitting down with a respectful "yes, ma'am!" when the borderline dominating behavior got too far.
Love smart receptive dogs like that.
I'd love to see a children's book (series) about Paige the diplomat and each new dog who comes in with its own unique story.
Paige could certainly teach some life lessons. :-)
