Indeed @michaelstobiersk. A pet that one invests months-to-years of one's life in 'does' become a member of the family - sometimes sooner if they interact (cats and especially dogs are trumps for this).
So their passing 'is' like the loss of a family member. They are a family member in all ways other than blood - like a very dear friend.
May your hurt ease soon @bindu. Embrace the years that you did share. They are Lucky's gift to you and they'll always remain dear to your heart.
