Louie - Pickens County Purebred.
He could just be Man's Best Friend, well at least mine anyway.
Although not always a willing participant, Louie remains one of my favorite subjects.
Louie is a Poundog, a rescue, part hound, part whatever. But as we like to call him here in the upper corner of South Carolina, a "Pickens County Purebred".
Initially adopted by one of my son's neglectful college roommates, Louie was a pitiful sickly puppy until one day my son made a deal. He told the roommate that the dog needed to go to a vet, "but if I take him and pay for the visit, I'm taking him home with me."
When my son told me he had a dog, I was less than encouraging to say the least. The last thing you need as a college student I said, is an animal to have to look after and take care of. And of course I knew as soon as graduation came around and moving to find jobs kicked in, he would likely be asking if his dog could come to my house. We had recently lost one of the most beloved family pets ever and had sworn to not get another animal to tie us down and get overly attached to, especially a BIG dog.
Of course as time passed and the time came, I was actually jockeying to keep the animal rather than avoid him. Louie eventually came to my house to live. I tried hard not to get attached, but he was extremely difficult not to love. I now feel embarrassed that I actually tried to talk my son into not taking this animal initially. He has truly turned out to be the absolute best animal companion I have ever known.
Life would not be the same without a good Pickens County Purebred like Louie.

What kind of #dog is that @ohicklin?
Mixed up mutt. We think mostly part Rottweiler, part Hound. He was picked up from the pound originally. But I have a friend Who swears it is a Swiss Mountain dog. Does have a lot of the same markings, but he is not a purebred dog.
