FREE MUSCOVY DUCKS – WHAT A BLESSING!
Seriously, a free pair of ducks?
Today we had an amazing opportunity. Some neighbors or ours have Muscovy ducks, which have been reproducing really well. They know that we like growing and raising our own food, so they asked us if we wanted a pair.
Of course, we took advantage of this wonderful opportunity. Not only did they offer us a pair of them, they even let us pick. Now, to @papa-pepper a duck is a duck, and he doesn’t really have a preference, so the honor of selecting the pair went to the @little-peppers.
There were a variety of white, gray, and black colored Muscovys ducks to choose from.
In the end, we chose two that looked similar, a large black & white male and a smaller black & white female.
Since these were the only two that color in the bunch, it will be easy to tell which ones are ours. Of course, we took our back with us, but if they get out and sneak next door, we will know which ones are ours.
Not only do we have a male and a female Muscovy now, but the neighbors said that they should be laying their own eggs soon, which could lead to ducklings in the near future!!! Now that would be exciting!!
We will see what happens, and we’ll keep you posted!

Very hardy ducks.
I used to raise them myself on the Llano Estacado.
If a critter can live there...well...Arkansas should be NO problem.
I watched one day as the hippy mantra "man is the only animal that rapes" was proven to be false. That little gal could sure move but the boys were too fast for her. Not only was it rape..it was gang rape.
I seem to remember reading that Muscovies are actually ducks...they're some other kind of water fowl...dunno.
The eggs are tasty..

We used to have 2 mallard ducks named "Cheese" & "Quacker" - I miss them. And, before that we had 3 other ducks. Ducks are fun & funny to watch. We have a family saying "dumb as a duck". They are funny, cute, but can be dumb. lol Like when ducklings try to walk off the end of your hand or the end of your lap and fall off, or when they try walking (falling) down steps. Not nearly as "bright" as chickens!
There was also a time when our ducks were in our old pond - which was partly frozen over. They were at the far end - in the water, and saw my husband come over (to the near side of the pond) to feed them. They swam up until the frozen part of the pond (ice) was at their tummies, and couldn't/wouldn't get out or swim to the near side of the pond where the food was. It was funny to watch. They didn't understand the concept of getting out of the pond on the other side and walking around the edge of the pond.
That is funny!
You will have a lot of fun with the new ducks, how big is the farm?. It won't take long to populate it at this rate. Between little peppers and ducks you will have to buy next door as well.
We are about to purchase almost 8 acres, we are just getting some things ready ahead of time!
Another thought, will we see duck-pepper abd duckes-peper putting up some stories as well?
Probably not, but you never know!
Ducks are awesome. And they get along with chickens nicely. Duck eggs are even better
