The Blue Pipevine Swallowtale Butterfly
I went for a nice walk today and came across this beautiful Blue Pipevine Swallowtale Butterfly. It was pollinating these flowers that look like poppies. Turns out they are Milk Thistles (Thanks Smithlabs).
It was very windy out. I'm surprised these pictures turned out as good as they did. I learned that if I keep the flash on even on a hot sunny day like this it will focus giving me these clear shots. The butterfly flew off several times and kept coming back to this same flower. Which was great because it allowed me to keep taking pictures. It was unusual for these butterflies because usually they don't stay very long on just one flower. The butterfly let me get real close to him. He didn't care, he wanted this flower LOL. Maybe he was struggling because the wind kept blowing him off this particular flower. His markings were very vivid. The orange and blue colors really made this butterfly stand out. I'm glad I was able to take such good pictures of him.

:)The flower Is a milk thistle, and they are an herbal and editable.
Silybum marianum-Common use: Promotes liver and gallbladder function; liver tonic; digestive complaints; stimulates bile flow (bile promotes digestion of fats); inflammation of bile ducts resulting from decreased flow of bile.
An artichoke is a giant thistle flower head.

Poppy colored for sure! There is not a lot of food in them, but they can keep you going in a Pinch. The herbal uses are more important overall.
:)lol, that's what I was going to say. You may be supprised how many of the "weeds" around your place are actually herbal remidies or eatitable.
I know about Dandelions. They can be used for everything. Milk thistle's, got it! No wonder this butterfly was all over this flower LOL.
