Do you remember "Manny" the famous character in the Ice-age animated movie series. Well "Manny" is a woolly mammoth.
Woolly mammoth lived over centuries ago in arctic regions of Europe and North America. Unfortunately they were long gone, they extinct somewhere between the late Pleistocene period and early Holocene era. According to the research done by zoologist, the main cause of woolly mammoth extinction is likely due to the mutual effects of drastic climate change otherwise known as the ice age and also the excessive hunting by humans.
Here are some facts about woolly mammoth
- Adult Woolly mammoth height reached up to 3.2 meters.
- They had dense layer of long bushy hair which grew as long as 1 meter.
- They lived in the cold climate so they had up to 8cm thick layer of of fat to protect them.
- Iconic feature was the pair of exceptionally long tusks, that reached up to 5m in length.
- They are vegetarian.(small plants, shrubs, grass and leftover tree parts)
