Just "Sorry" would be enough. No need for a stupid excuse.
When you join there's a big NO PROMOTION. No sharing your links. Truth is, you just want to profit from referrals. It was spam out of greed. End of the story.
I'm not even a moderator there, but there are people who work really hard to keep that place usable and useful.
