Baby boooommmm!
Approaching summer... baby birds coming out of nests! The common house martin, Delichon urbicum, migrates from Africa to Portugal during Spring and Summer to breed, building their nests in the roof edges when in an urban setting; hence their portuguese name, Andorinha dos beirais (beirais means roof edge in portuguese).

The typical nests are made of mud and a mix of vegetable material and feathers, giving them the appearance of a small burrow.

It's common in this time of the year see little heads popping out of the nests and begging for food, while both parents come and go with food to share, as in photo above.
And in September... we'll see them lining up in electric wires by the dozens, ready to depart to warmer temperatures; and if everything goes well, returning next year to the place they were born!
