A white rhino in the open bush

My entry for the animal photography challenge @juliank

Met this big fella out in the open, when I was filming in Kenya. White rhinos are calm and very cautious, they behave more like cattle than one of africas biggest and strongest animal. They can weigh up to 3.5 tons they are able to accelerate rather fast, faster than you think, believe me...
Although white rhino numbers are going up it doesn't look that good for the whole species, declining numbers through ruthless poaching and human expansion are a threat to these beautiful and majestic animals.

Canon 50D - Sigma 70-200 mm 2.8 at 4.5 - 1/320 shutter speed - ISO 320

Check out projects like https://www.forrangers.com and get involved. I was lucky to meet those guys personally, they do their best against an overwhelming evil, even paying with their own lifes.
