Daily Birding 📷 62
American Robin
Look at that cute face!
While foraging for juniper berries, this beautiful bird collected some snow on its beak.
Notice all the berries on the ground. A portion of them will have dropped from the tree on their own but many are discarded by birds. After picking a berry off the tree, a bird will determine if it is good. If it is, it gets eaten; if not, it is tossed. Because of this, foraging on the ground may seem to be inefficient. For whatever reason, I saw many birds using this tactic.

AMRO are lots of people's favorites, in part because they often nest in bushes or trees in our yards. I caught a robin yesterday in some sort of courtship display.
He kept fanning his tail and strutting around on this branch. I should have taken a video, but just got still shots.
That's an amazing shot. :) I haven't seen that display behavior before, I'll definitely watch for it.
