My Wolf Family - I let them run free

Okay, so they aren't wolves, but they are definitely family and they have wolf like features. Meet Nio (red/brown and white) and Reva (white w/brown) my Siberian Huskies. I took this shot of them whilst in Sutton Park (Birmingham, UK). They're so camera shy (seriously, when I point a camera at them, they just turn away!) but when they're out running wild they don't have a care in the world.

This is one of my favourite pictures of these guys, because it shows them how they're supposed to be.

One of my biggest annoyances when I read about Huskies is that nearly every web article I came across while I was researching them, told me that they can't be trusted off lead. That they'll run miles away if you don't keep them on.

This is completely untrue. You need to put a lot of dedication into training them, but once they start to respect you as their pack leader you can let them off lead. These dogs command good leadership. Without it, you'll have a very sad dog. The change in my first (Nio) when I started letting him off lead was unbelievable. He was running the way he was born to and was clearly much happier for it.

But the key is dedication, persistence and a lot of positive affirmation (supplemented with plenty of treats of course!). If you're unable to make lots of time, you really shouldn't get a Husky.
