Pets In Motion

in #animalphotography6 years ago (edited)

Pets are a cute and fun one to capture and don't tend to fly or run away from you. Capturing pets can involve having your shutter speed high because they won't stay still for long! For our chickens and birds, I usually boost my shutter speed to about 2000 or 1500, then for the rabbits, it's about 500 and 1000. My rabbit's a bit old and enjoys laying in the sun, mostly.

Changing your aperture to the right level seems to help too, but it's a bit tricky to get while your pets are sprinting about. So I'll show you some of the photos I've captured so far.

Sort:

We're getting chickens too. My brother has converted the downstairs of our cubby house into a hen house.

  • Keep the weeds down.
  • Give us eggs.

No brainer :)

Shame you're not a bit closer to us. I could sort you out a little flock of Easter Eggers. They're friendly little boogers. Try to trip you up and climb up your legs when you go in the run!

Amanda's all over it. We'll grab a couple of battery rescues from McLaren Vale.
I poisoned our weeds a few weeks back so waiting for all the nasty to go away.

I love seeing the recovery of ex batteries. They don't often last long, though, so fingers crossed you get lucky with some real fighters. If they manage to avoid the laying issues they can live around 8 years.

That's heaps longer than I thought.
I'll give it another week or so, then go get some.

If they don't avoid laying issues, then their average is 2-3 years. Does that sound a bit better? ;)

Our last hybrid just died today at 3 years old. I think an egg broke inside her.
Hybrids are usually very docile, and friendly, which is what makes it so hard when you lose them.

Sorry you lost her :(
It'll be hard on the kids, as I'm sure it's been hard on yours. Harsh realities though.

Absolutely. There is no avoiding death and no point trying to hide it from kids. Best they come across it younger with the support of their family behind them. I always try to remember that it's the precious moments you have with them while they're alive that's most important. Unfortunately, everything inevitably comes to an end.

You have a minor misspelling in the following sentence:

A wierd angle again.
It should be weird instead of wierd.
