The Wookiee and I

Today seems like a really great day to introduce you to Chewie, officially. This is because I’ve been away all weekend and miss his face.
I’m also going to enter this photo in today’s Animal Photography Contest.

I selected Chewie from his litter because he seemed the most chill of the bunch. He was laying with his back legs splayed out like a little lazy frog, giving his brothers and sisters disdainful looks. I felt a connection, a kinship, a “he is mine” moment. That’s how our adoption story begins.
I should probably mention I wanted a small to medium sized dog. Chewie is neither of those things. He is a beast. People see him and say “Oh good gosh! He is like a bear!”

A very loveable bear

I was fairly unhealthy when I got him. I had neglected both my body and my mind. For some, this is the worst time to take on a responsibility like a puppy, but for me it was an awakening. Chewie is my health plan.
There were definitely challenging moments that come with raising a puppy. First of all, I think he was vying for an academy award when I labeled him as chill. I had probably 2 years of zero chill to deal with. He also went through some fun phases, including the defecating in the house phase, the biting phase, the barking in my face phase—but even with all the frustrations (and tears) I haven't regretted having him in my life for one moment.

It’s been 4 years now. I hope to have him for 40 more.
That’s it for today! I’m going to post about him a lot (photos, training sessions, ridiculous stories) but I thought a little intro would be in order.
I will also one day post about the complicated relationship I have with Moe, who belongs to my boyfriend @somebuttstuff so stayed tuned for that. Moe is a little dog with a lot of personality.
