Hello Animal Lovers!

Here's today’s dose of the cute and the cuddlies.

Popularly known as ‘The Ship of the Desert’, CAMELS are majestic creatures that are famous around the world for their humped backs. Blessed with long legs and a big-lipped snout, these mammals are definitely a sight to marvel.

There are basically two varieties of camels - they can either have one hump (Dromedary species) or two humps (Bactrian species).

Here are 10 interesting facts that you may or may not know about HORSES:

1.

The camel’s HUMP is like a storage container that has fat deposits. They use this supply of FAT when FOOD and WATER is scarce, which in turn diminishes the size of the hump... The hump refills with fat once they start eating and drinking again.

2.

To protect their eyes from the sand, Camels have a third, clear eyelid. Additionally, they also have two rows of long eyelashes. If they encounter a sand storm, they can even shut their nostrils to prevent sand from entering.

Camels possess thick lips which allow them to eat things which most other animals cannot. Their diet includes thorny plants.

30 gallons (113 liters) of water in under 15 minutes – Yes, camels can drink that much of water that fast!

5.

Camels can survive almost SIX months without food or water.

6.

For thousands of years, CAMELS have been used by man for transportation purposes. Camels can reportedly carry about 375 to 600 lbs. (170 to 270 kilograms) of weight on their back...

7.

Gross, but interesting fact - When camels feel threatened by people, they are known to spit on them. Not just spit, they even throw up content from their stomachs.

8.

Camels are very social animals, and interestingly they like to blow in each other's faces in order to greet each other.

On an average, CAMELS can live for 40 to 50 years. An adult camel measures about 1.85 m (6 ft 1 in) in height. The weight of camels ranges from - 300 to 1,000 kg (660 to 2,200 lb) for Bactrian camels to 300 to 600 kg (660 to 1,320 lb) for Dromedaries.
